ROME (Reuters) - Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said today that the European debt crisis is a crisis the euro as its currency "did not convince anyone."
"There is an attack on the euro as a currency that did not convince anyone, because there is but one country but many do not have a unitary government or a bank reference and guarantees," said Berlusconi talking to Member General of Foreign Trade.
Already in recent days, the prime minister had come to express concern about the single currency. In a note at Palazzo Chigi, Monday, it said that the euro is the only currency that "has not backed by a lender of last resort structurally prepared to defend its credibility due to the aggressiveness of the financial markets." This situation, called for the press, "which must be corrected once and for all."
Has not been slow to comment on the PD to the words spoken on the euro from Prime Minister tonight. Enrico Letta, in a statement, called it "paradoxical" because Berlusconi said, adding that he, the President of the Council, "is no longer able to convince anyone in Europe and the world, but also in their own country."......
