Palestina Amore

Palestina Amore
Some Italians have made it their mission to mobilise support on behalf of the Palestinian cause.

On May 31, 2010, an Israeli military raid on an aid flotilla sailing to the blockaded Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of 19 unarmed peace activists, prompting international condemnation over what was perceived as a brutal and unjustified use of force.

Five of those killed were Italian nationals who were part of the humanitarian mission attempting to break the blockade by delivering goods and construction materials to the occupied Palestinian territory. Israeli sanctions on Gaza since 2001 have led to widespread poverty and rampant unemployment there.

But the deadly attack on the flotilla has only served to further motivate Italian supporters of the Palestinian cause. The Palestine Forum, a network of Italian committees and associations, is pushing for greater political support for the Palestinians, while the Rome Palestinian Solidarity Network is continuing to organise a Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israeli products.....

Special Rapporteur says the manner of the deposed Libyan leader's killing could be a war crime.
The UN has called for an international investigation into the death of Muammar Gaddafi, the deposed Libyan leader, saying it could have been a war crime.

Christof Heyns, the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, told Al Jazeera on Friday that a proper investigation into the exact events surrounding Gaddafi’s death was a key test for Libya’s future as a democratic and accountable state.

“The Geneva conventions are very clear that when prisoners are taken they may not be executed willfully and if that was the case then we are dealing with a war crime, something that should be tried.”

“It’s important that the new government will be placed on a solid basis where there is accountability for illegal actions. I think it would be good if there was international investigation into this as well, and it’s not simply Mr Gaddafi but also there’s the dangers of reprisals against others as well and that is where it is important to draw the line to say that new system in place one of accountability.”

Libya's National Transitional Council delayed Gaddafi's burial on Firday in order to arrange a secret location and allow for an investigation into his death, officials said.

Mohamed Sayeh, a senior member of the NTC, told the Associated Press news agency that a "third party will come from outside of Libya to go through the paperwork" relating to Gaddafi's death....

Over 30,000 people flooded the streets of New York City during Occupy Wall Street’s November 17th day of action. Over 100 were arrested for participating in the march and rally, but none have enjoyed as much media attention as Retired Police Captain Ray Lewis.

A Mother’s Open Letter to Jerry Sandusky

Jerry Sandusky, you are almost without doubt, guilty of sexually abusing children and there is no doubt your reputation is ruined.

However, there is one path you can take that could bring some good into this otherwise devastatingly tragic situation: You should come clean. You should admit your problem. You should apologize to each and every victim. Then, you should use your public notoriety to shine a neon spotlight on this dark, dank secret that many, many men and some women, carry with them like a shadow with claws that not only never, ever goes away, but also pulls in more victims every hour of every day. My daughter, at age 6, was one of those victims.

Why should you, Mr. Sandusky, take this path? Pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder listed in the DSM IV manual – and it currently has no cure. So once a pedophile, always a pedophile. The millions of people suffering from this disorder need help – lifetime help – just as a schizophrenic or an alcoholic needs lifetime help and support.

If we decide as a society to ignore the fact that pedophilia is a medical condition and choose only to criminalize it instead, most individuals who understand they have pedophilic tendencies will not seek help – and the most glaring problem about pedophilia is that, by definition, the trauma is passed on from one generation to the next in a sordid mix of blood, tears, guilt, shame, blame, anger and sorrow..... more

Toxic Butt Injections Hospitalized Woman

A transgender woman claiming to be a doctor injected cement, fix-a-flat, mineral oil, and Super Glue into the buttocks of a woman in the Miami area, resulting in several hospital visits for the victim. The person depicted in the image above is the alleged injector of the toxic materials, not the victim whose identity has not been released. Police in Miami eventually found the transgender woman who claimed to be a doctor, yet has no license and injected the victim in a Miami Gardens townhouse several times for $700. As of yesterday it wasn’t verified, but it appears the accused had been injecting herself as well.

“In a world where body image is in the forefront of our media, this woman, for whatever reason, thought that this was the answer and she almost lost her life,” said one of the detectives on the case. (Source: Sun Sentinel) It actually took over a year to track down the fake doctor. The victim was too embarrassed to report the situation, due to the sensitive nature of the attempted body augmentation. She is still in poor health, though at least now she has been receiving professional medical from licensed healthcare workers.... more on http://www.thivest.com/?page=28

Shocking Images Show Escalating Violence Against OWS

Human Rights:

SEATTLE (AP) — A downtown march and rally in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement turned briefly chaotic as police scattered a crowd of rowdy protesters — including a pregnant 19-year-old and an 84-year-old activist — with blasts of pepper spray.

Protest organizers denounced the use of force, saying that police indiscriminately sprayed the chemical irritant at peaceful protesters.

The Occupy Seattle movement released a written statement late Tuesday expressing support for “a 4-foot 10-inch, 84-year-old woman, a priest and a pregnant woman who as of this writing is still in the hospital.”

Dorli Rainey is an activist who has supported liberal causes in the Seattle area for decades. A photo showing Rainey being cared for by fellow activists in the immediate aftermath of the police incident appeared on news websites around the world.

Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said he didn’t have specifics on the Rainey incident, but he said pepper spray is “is not age specific. No more dangerous to someone who is 10 or someone who is 80.”....
